After Udonis Haslem’s retirement from the Miami Heat in July, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers became the oldest player in the NBA. When asked about starting his 21st season in the league, the King had a fitting response.
At 38 years old, James stunned the audience by making a creepy gesture with his hands before executing an impressive dunk. It’s clear that this season won’t be ordinary for the four-time NBA champion, who is now in his 21st year of playing professional basketball.
In his 21st season, Vince Carter set a new record for the best average points per game in NBA history, with seven points per game. Meanwhile, LeBron James had an incredible comeback season where he averaged 30 points per game, leading many to expect similar performances even as he approaches age 38. The NBA X Twitter account shared James’s reaction to becoming the oldest player in the league, as reported by news outlets.
He posted the video on his social media profiles along with emojis that mirrored the emotions presented in the original clip. James had contemplated quitting at the end of the 2016-17 season, and experienced feelings of inadequacy for the first time in his career.
He made a comeback announcement and revealed that his love for the game was reignited by coaching his sons during the summer. Most of the Lakers’ team members from their defeat in the Western Conference final against the Denver Nuggets are back, along with new additions such as center Christian Wood. With their strong lineup, led by James, they are predicted to be the top contenders for the championship title, and their season opener will take place on October 24 in Denver.
